Alte
Universität
I., Dr.-Ignaz-Seipel-Platz 1
The impressive complex between Bäckerstrasse and Schönlaterngasse
demonstrates the influence of French palace architecture on mid-18th
century Viennese buildings. It was completed in 1755 according to
designs by the Lotharingian architect Jean Nicolas Jadot. Since 1857 it
is the seat of the Akademie der Wissenschaften (Academy of Sciences).
The aula has turned out particularly handsome but is accessible during
guided tours only.
