Here
you can see how the emperors lived. This museum holds the original
furniture of the Habsburger from the Hofburg, Schloss Schönbrunn and
Schloss Belvedere. You find crown prince Rudolph’s cradle there, a
sitting group embroidered by Maria Theresia and her daughters, Sisi’s
furniture, and an Egyptian room.
The Kaiserliches Hofmobiliendepot was founded in 1747 by Maria Theresia
and was meant to preserve the Habsburger furniture. After being closed
down for five years because of renovations, it was recently reopened. It
is now three times as big as before and even more excessively equipped.
You also find examples there of more recent interior decoration, e.g. of
Adolf Loos, Josef Hoffmann and Otto Wagner.

In the
former court pharmacy in the Stallburg a new museum has been arranged
where you can follow the history of the famous white horses through
several attributes and paintings. Moreover, through a window you can
watch the Lippizans during their dressage hours.

Wiesenthal was the mainspring behind the idea of raising a monument on
this square for the Austrian victims of the Holocaust. At the Judenplatz
the memory of the persecution of the Jews is being kept alive by an
imposing monument, exhumations of the mediaeval synagogue, and a museum
about the mediaeval Judaism.
