Tuesday-Sunday 10am-6pm, Thursdays till 8 pm
This exhibition hall from 1898 is regarded as a masterpiece of
Viennese Jugendstil and is crowned by a dome of laurel branches in
gilded bronze. The architect Joseph Maria Olbrich conceived this
building as a three-dimensional manifesto of the society of young
artists. In 1902 Gustav Klimt made the famous Beethoven frieze for its
souterrain.

Daily
9am-5pm, July-sept till 6pm.
Almost no other great 20th century personality is as inextricably
linked to Vienna as Sigmund Freud (1856-1939), who lived and had his
practice here for 78 years until his emigration to London. The ‘inventor’
of psychoanalysis – which is not merely a therapeutic method but also
offers a fresh view on humanity – has strongly influenced the history
of civilisation. The museum is installed in his former practice and
domicile and still has part of the authentic furniture. The famous couch,
however, is no longer here, since Freud took it to London with him.
After the museum opened in 1971, Freud’s daughter donated part of her
father’s books and other possessions to the institution. A visit to
this museum is simultaneously a psychological experience.

St.Marxer
Friedhof (cemetery)
III., Leberstrasse 6-8
Vienna’s last Biedermeyer cemetery, named after St.Mark. Strikes a
balance between park and burial ground. Although Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
was given a monument here, he was buried in an anonymous grave in 1791.
Stadtpark
I., Parkring
This 28 acre-large park was opened in 1862 and is embellished by
water courses and lakes. A green oasis in the heart of the metropolis.
The design is by Josef Selleny, who opted for the English style of
landscaping. The Stadtbahn which runs through the park is a
Jugendstil design by Otto Wagner from around 1900. Among the numerous
monuments the statue of Johann Strauss is the most prominent.
