Veit. The Steinhof is the ‘Heil und Pflegeanstalt der Gemeinde Wien’
(health center of Vienna). The accessory church is an important example
of the Austrian Jugendstil. Architect of the whole was Otto Wagner. The
church can always be viewed from the outside. The monumental building is
impressive because of its simplicity. The green cupola and the white
marble plates of the forefront are very striking.
Inside,
the Jugendstil character is even more obvious. Here you can admire the
Austrian Jugendstil in its purest form.

In the
past, Beethoven and Mozart performed here in the Augarten. In the
Österreichische Galerie Belvedere, the Atelier Augarten was opened in
2001, a center for contemporary pictorial, sculpture, and object art.

Linie 6
Part of
the subway line 6 was made into a cultural route. Over a distance of 4.5
km 32 bridge arches of the old aboveground subway at the Wiener Gürtel
were being covered with glass. The brick foundations have been designed
by Jugendstil architect Otto Wagner. The entirety accommodates museums,
bookstores, cafes and disco’s. The new promenade, which was finished
during 2001, is surrounded by sculptures of contemporary artists. The EU
has donated several million euro’s to the project.

The
exceptionally equipped planetarium has been completely renovated en was
reopened in 2002. It not only lets you gaze into the universe, but the
permanent exhibition ‘Researchers of the cosmos’ and temporary
expositions about new discoveries in space give you information as well.
Informative, especially for children and curious people. You can inform
about the shows by phone or on the website.
